ACTIVITIES AND THE PIEDMONT REGION

A week of relaxing by the pool, sitting on the terrace, reading a book, strolling through the garden, picking fruit, sipping wine, and cooking—it's all fine with me. It's the perfect fit for life here at the Borgo, in the heart of Piedmont's Alta Langa region.

But Piedmont has so much more to offer. The region is known for its picturesque villages, beautiful valleys, excellent wines, and is the cradle of the Slow Food movement, which originated in the town of Bra. For those who enjoy being active: bring your bike or rent an e-bike. Explore the area on foot or by hiking along the many, sometimes challenging, trails. And in between, enjoy culinary experiences and delicious wines such as Nebbiolo, Barolo, Barbaresco, Barbera, the local Dolcetto, or the sparkling Alta Langa Spumante. As the icing on the cake, you can even visit the Riviera dei Fiori, with its authentic coastal towns and charming villages. Furthermore, major cities are only a 1 to 1.5-hour drive away.

A day at the beach – Giorno al Mare

Wonderful: a day at the beach! I highly recommend it. Whether you choose the beautiful seaside resorts of Varazze and Celle Ligure, just west of Savona, or prefer to relax on a charming beach in Spotorno, Noli, Varigotti, or Finale Ligure—from Borgo, you can be on the Ligurian coast in just over an hour.

Daytrip Alba, Barolo

One of my favorite day trips! Drive over the hills south of the Borgo towards charming villages like Gottasecca, with scenic stops along the way like Murazzano and Mombarcaro – the highest village in the Alta Langa region. Enjoy lunch in or near Alba and continue your route via Barolo for a wine tasting, a museum visit, and Italian gelato. Return to the Borgo via Castino and Cortemilia in a relaxed manner.

Cycling and Walking

Piedmont, with its rolling—and sometimes challenging—hills, vineyards, hazelnut fields, and historic villages, is a paradise for hikers, mountain bikers, e-bikers, and cyclists. Bringing your own bike is an excellent idea. Good walking shoes and perhaps a walking stick are essential.

Wine tasting in the Langhe

The Langhe, in the heart of Piedmont, may not be Italy's largest wine region, but it's undoubtedly among the very best. The rolling landscape, rich winemaking tradition, and the passion of local winemakers make this area a paradise for lovers of authentic, characterful wines. Famous names like Barolo, Barbaresco, and Barbera originate here, but surprisingly good white wines—from crisp Langhe whites to elegant Chardonnays—are also increasingly finding their way into the world's top ranks.

Culinary enjoyment

You can enjoy fantastic food everywhere in Italy, but Piedmont—and especially the Langhe—is among the country's true gastronomic gems. Here, everything revolves around tradition, local produce, seasonal ingredients, and simple dishes prepared with skill. The cuisine is rich in cheeses, game dishes, cured meats, homemade pasta, and, of course, the world-famous truffles.

Festivities

The Langhe is known for its rich traditions, culinary culture, and atmospheric village festivals. From April to the end of October, the region is bustling with feste e sagre, wine and food festivals, and historical events. In summer, almost every village organizes its own festival, led by the local Pro Loco. Numerous wine and truffle events also take place throughout the year, especially during the spring and autumn harvest season.

Weekly and antique markets

Do you enjoy strolling through an authentic Italian weekly market, or do you prefer browsing stalls overflowing with antiques and curiosities? The Langhe and the nearby Riviera dei Fiori offer a wide variety of markets. Spend half a day exploring: you'll see, smell, taste, chat, and bargain with the farmers who arrive early in the morning.

Visiting big cities

Did you know you can fly and rent a car if you want to stay here for a week at Borgo? You can fly via Milan, Turin, and Genoa. I personally like to visit Turin, Genoa, and Savona monthly—Savona is only an hour's drive away. Turin and Genoa are both about 1 hour 45 minutes and 1 hour 30 minutes from Borgo. Milan is a bit further away but easily accessible by highway.

Ode to the Alta Langa Spumante

If you're looking to make a splash on an Italian terrace and fancy a sparkling wine, ask if they serve "Alta Langha Spumante DOCG." This wine has become a household name, especially in the northern regions of Italy.

Wellness at the Borgo

Starting in the autumn of 2026, the Borgo will also have a wellness area with a spacious Finnish sauna combined with an Eastern European banja, naturally with a wood-burning stove. The wellness area includes a shower/toilet and relaxation area and is available to Borgo guests.4
